How To Connect to the Community
There is free software available for every operating system to connect you to an IRC server. Most
current browsers, such as Opera, have this functionality available by default or as a simple addon. Windows has a few options, the most common client being
mIRC. Use
Google to find a client that suits you and your operating system.
After you have set up an IRC client you can use the information below, displayed in the format of
server ⁄ #channel, to connect to any of the channels:
Once you have connected to the network, you can join any of the other channels with the command
/join (#channel)
The command to connect to IRC in most clients is
/server (server). To join a channel once you are connected it would be
/join (#channel). With mIRC you can use a simple command
/server irc.lurkmore.com -j #chanchan to connect to the general chat channel. Your client should be intelligent enough to choose the correct port but you may need to open a port or supply it. The port for IRC is generally
6667.
